Kara Groff Mesenburg President/Pet Care Specialist GroffPetLoss@gmail.com

Kara Groff Mesenburg, third generation funeral director, is the owner and president of Groff Pet Loss Services. In addition she works as the Executive Director at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory and Meadow Green Memorial Park. She is a 2003 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sandusky. Kara received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from Xavier University in 2006 and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in management from John Carroll University in 2011. She received her Funeral Director's license in 2013. When Kara joined the family business in 2010, she and her father, Leon Groff, saw the great need our community had for a local pet cremation service. Kara's love of animals, along with her entrepreneurial spirit, ensure that Groff Pet Loss Services offers the very best care to pets in the Erie County Ohio area.

Kara grew up with golden retrievers as part of her family, and fell in love with Major, her miniature Australian Shepherd, who came as a package with her husband, Josh. She currently works in the office part time, as she is also enjoying the last years at home with her young children before they are in school. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sandusky, Sandusky Rotary Club, Plum Brook Country Club, Ohio Cemetery Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and the Pet Loss Professional Alliance. Kara resides in Sandusky, with her husband, Josh, and their children, Macie and Drew.

Joel L. Terry Pet Care Specialist & Crematory Technician GroffPetLoss@gmail.com

Joel L. Terry is part of the Groff Pet Loss Services team, working as a Pet Care Specialist and Crematory Technician, as well as being the Cemetery Manager at Meadow Green Memorial Park.  He is a 2005 graduate of Port Clinton High School in Port Clinton, Ohio.  Joel continued his education at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio and then left to pursue his career in the funeral industry.  He is now a resident of Huron and enjoys being active in his community. 

 

Along with his wife and son, he shares his home with their two chihauhas, Hector and Carlos, and two cats, Francis and Carley.  Joel brings a great deal of pet cremation experience from the Columbus area, and goes above and beyond to ensure each pet family has their beloved pet returned home to them as quickly as possible.

Kathleen E. Phillips is part of our Groff Pet Loss Services team and enjoys being a compassionate Pet Care Specialist.  She is a 2010 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Sandusky.  Kathleen then furthered her education and received a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Heidelberg University in 2014.  Currently Kathleen is attending Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.  She is working toward obtaining her funeral director and embalmer license.

 

Kathleen resides in Sandusky with her Australian Cattle Dog, Bodhi.  Bodhi goes everywhere with Kathleen, and you'll even see him around our facility going for an after work jog!

Geoffrey A. Cleveland Pet Care Specialist & Crematory Technician

Geoffrey A. Cleveland is part of the Groff Pet Loss Services team, working as a Pet Care Specialist and Crematory Technician, as well as being on the Meadow Green Memorial Park Cemetery Grounds Maintenance Crew. He is a 1998 graduate of Huron High School and attended Bowling Green State University where he studied sociology and communications. He is also a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter. He began working for Groff Pet Loss Services and Meadow Green Memorial Park Cemetery in 2018.

Geoff has always been an animal lover. As a child, his family included huskies, beagles, three cats and a bearded dragon. As an adult, one of his best buddies was his westie, Dexter. His compassion and connection with families brings comfort to those who work with him. Geoff is active in the recovery community. He resides in Sandusky.

Allen Jenkins Licensed Crematory Operator

Allen Jenkins is a Licensed Crematory Operator and the Maintenance Manager for all of the Groff Family Services Divisions. He has been with the company since 2011 and can be seen working at the funeral home, Groff Pet Loss Services, or with the cemetery grounds maintenance crew. He is a 1981 Sandusky High School graduate. He retired from Public Service.

Allen prides himself in his attention to detail, especially when working as a crematory operator. His goal at Groff Pet Loss Services is to be able to provide a high level of reassurance to all of the pet lovers with whom he has the privilege of working. He is a member of the American Legion. He has 3 children and 2 grandchildren, and resides with his wife Kristin in Sandusky.

Rocky Brubaker General Manager

Rocky is a senior German Shepherd, who loves attention and being in charge. He enjoys swimming, walks, playing fetch, and just spending time with his family. Although he appears to have a serious demeanor, he is great with kids and is always ready for a belly rub! In addition to being a part of the Groff Pet Loss Services staff, Rocky has also made appearances at the annual Stein Hospice Camp Good Grief with his owner, Funeral Director Kyle Brubaker. Rocky provides comfort to the campers as they ask important questions about funerals.

Major Mesenburg Human Resources Manager

Major Mesenburg is a miniature Australian Shepherd who takes care of his humans, Funeral Director Kara Groff Mesenburg and family. Major is a protective ladies man, always snuggling up to the women in his life. He loves walks, napping in the sunshine, and going outside to receive a treat, even when he doesn’t do “his business”. Major generally works after hours because he barks loud orders, especially when meeting new people!

Bodhi Phillips Accounting Manager

Bodhi is an Australian cattle dog, and although he has a serious side, he loves running wild on Kelley's Island! He is a momma's boy, and his momma, Kathleen Phillips, who is currently enrolled in mortuary science school, couldn't be more proud. Bodhi enjoys playing fetch with any and all toys, especially with his Dad, Pete, at the dog park.  Bodhi also has to be watched very closely because he has a bit of a mischievous side.

Mary McClung - Groff Customer Service Manager

Mary is a rescue cat who is the "Queen" of her home. She likes to be in charge, and enjoys finding high places to perch so she can keep an eye on her owners, Cemetery Administrator Cindy McClung, Groff Pet Less Services Manager Kelly Groff, and baby Jace. Her favorite part of the day is playing in the shower with the leftover water, and any time it is quiet to she can sleep.

Runner is rescue cat and the youngest employee at Groff Pet Loss Services. She can be sneaky and sometimes causes a bit of trouble. She likes to roam and escape whenever she sees an opportunity, so it's important that her owners, Cindy and Kelly, keep a close eye on her. Runner also likes to pick on "Queen Mary," spend most of her time in the kitchen and bathroom, but does allow baby Jace to snuggle up with her for afternoon naps.
